Accommodation


The Burnside Hotel

The meeting will be held in the Burnside hotel, in the town of Bowness-on-Windermere. A map of the town shows the approximate location of the hotel.

The Burnside Hotel has reserved all its accommodation for the conference until the 1st of March 2010. After that time, reservations can also be made by the public.

There are 57 bedrooms which breakdown in the following way:-

  • 33 double rooms
  • 10 twin rooms
  • 6 family rooms which sleep 4 (1 double bed, 2 single beds)
  • 8 family rooms which sleep 3 (1 double bed, 1 single bed)

We have arranged discount rates at the hotel for bed and breakfast accommodation as follows:-

    During the conference: Sunday to Friday
  • £100 per person per night for single room occupancy.
  • £60 per person per night otherwise.
    For the Sunday night
  • £ 90 per person per night for single room occupancy
  • £ 50 per person per night otherwise.
    Friday and Saturday before and after the conference
  • £105 per person per night for single room occupancy
  • £65 per person per night otherwise.
    Dinner bed and Breakfast
  • A three-course dinner can be included for £5 extra per person per night during the conference (but £10 on Friday-Sunday). (This will not include drinks.)

Rates include the room, full breakfast, hotel facilities including the Parklands Country Club.

People who book dinner will obtain a partial refund on their conference dinner. For delegates, a two-course hot/cold lunch is included Monday-Friday in the registration fee.


Other accommodation

An extensive range of accommodation at varying prices is available in and around Bowness-on-Windermere. We recommend the website of the Cumbria Tourist Board to help you find other accommodation.

Anywhere within Bowness-on-Windermere is up to 15 minutes walk from the conference hotel. Windermere is 30 minutes walk away, and Windermere station 40 minutes walk.

Self-catering accommodation, costing around £200 per person for the entire week can also be found in the area, and may be a good option for students. Could those who are interested please contact the organisers as soon as possible if they would like to book this.

Even cheaper accommodation can often be found in local youth hostels. The Windermere youth hostel appears booked up with a school trip, but the Ambleside hostel has rooms with WiFi access from about £20 per person per night. Ambleside can be reached by the Travellers Choice bus 618. This takes 20–30 minutes to reach Bowness. Timetables can be found here.
