Plant the Planets
In the week commencing June 2nd 2008, around 800 school children from across Cheshire came to Jodrell Bank to 'Plant the Planets' in our new STFC-funded Planet Path. This event was part of Cheshire Year of Gardens '08.
The school pupils grew sunflowers and other plants at their schools (we had sponsorship from Thomson Morgan, who supplied the seeds) and, as the plants grew, have been going through worksheets focused on photosynthesis, the sun and the solar system. The resulting flowers were planted in the areas marked out by the Planet Path gas giants.
The event was mentioned in the Congleton Guardian newspaper.
