A Brief Autobiography

I was born in 1974 in the United States. As I was growing up, my family moved around a lot; my father, a doctor, never seemed to be satisfied with where we were living. My family moved first from Maryland to New York, then to Maine, then to Michigan, and finally to Montana. Upon graduation from high school, I started moving around myself, first going to college at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico, where I earned my B.S. in physics in 1996, and then moving to Honolulu, Hawaii, where I worked at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii to earn my M.S. in astronomy in 1999 and my Ph.D in astronomy in 2002.

My first postdoctoral position, from 2002 to 2005, was working at Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona on data processing for the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey, a survey of 75 nearby galaxies with the Spitzer Space Telescope. My second postdoctoral position was from 2005 to 2011 at Imperial College London in London, United Kingdom, where I worked as a support astronomer for the SPIRE submillimeter instrument on the Herschel Space Observatory.

Right now, I work at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA) at the University of Manchester in Manchester, United Kingdom. I primarily work within the UK ALMA Regional Centre Node to support users of the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA), a telescope in the Atacama Desert in Chile. Additionally, I continue to pursue my research in extragalctic astronomy with an emphasis on understanding dust and star formation in nearby galaxies. Additional information on my professional work is available from my science page. I also have been very active in outreach activities, including the Jodcast, an astronomy-themed podcast produced by students and staff at the JBCA.

My hobbies include traveling, photography, visiting museums and historical sites, reading, jogging, and computer games.
