I have a keen interest in astronomy outreach and public engagement. This page contains some highlights to date, you can also see full details of all my outreach work.

The Jodcast

From summer 2010 until January 2012 I was responsible for The Jodcast, a bi-monthly podcast produced by astronomers at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. I have been involved with The Jodcast since April 2009 and can be heard on most shows as a presenter and/or interviewer. Some highlights include interviewing Professor Brian Cox on the set of the BBC Stargazing Live programme, researching astronomy in 1990 for a April Fool edition and recording on the side of the road in Milan.

Events

In June 2011 I helped to organise an evening event at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. This event was aimed at adults and themed around the lunar eclipse. In January 2011, I helped to organise an event at the Museum of Science and Industry to coincide with the BBC Stargazing Live TV programme. We set-up a scale model of the Solar System across the museum, put on talks and had draw-your-own-constellation activites for children. The event was a huge success, it was estimated that 700 people attended.

Talks

I have given public talks to a range of audiences. I particularly enjoy communicating my research through comedy and have spoken at a number of Bright Club events. A highlight was talking at Bright Club: Stars at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.
